|
A reactive textile surface. Open sesame was developed for and shown at Art Bots 2004. it consisted of two textile surfaces stretched taught with a space of a few centimeters between them. The weaving pattern of textiles placed in front of each other creates Moiré interference patterns. The second surface has a grid of shape memory alloy actuators attached to a Plexiglas plate behind it. When the shape memory alloy actuators contact the second surface it retracts causing drastic changes in the Moiré patterns. An array of microphones hangs in front of the screen to act as sensors. Depending on which microphone the viewer yells into changes occur in the reactive patterns on the surface. | ||||||||
